it's so lonely...

having to sing 'happy birthday' on your own

yes, it was JG's bdae yesterday. after spending his last bdae apart, i consider it to be a blessing to be able to wish him a happy 26th birthday in person.

and having the luxury of time, albeit at the expense of having the luxury of spending power, i was able to check out various recipes online and ponder wat to cook for him. well, here's what i came up with. (pardon the newspaper settings; we can't be bothered with wiping table mats )

pan-seared scallops in butter with linguine, mussels in garlic butter sauce, smoked salmon salad

i must admit, it looks boring. but the scallops were sweet

now now, before u start marveling at how i turned into such a great cook, i'll have to confess that i cheated. the mussels came in a pre-cooked packet at M&S and all i had to do was to boil them in a pot with a splash of white wine. and all i had to do with the scallops was pan fry them in butter for 5 min.

and for dessert...

his and her ice-creams, Phish Food - him and Half Baked - me

i'd bought a small choc fudge cake from M&S, but had forgotten to take a pic of it. was just about to buy candles, when i realised we didn't have matches at home and our stove is of the hot-plate variety. it was a good thing too, or JG would have died laughing (he derives a kick from my 'half-baked' moments).

well, that's when i ended up singing happy birthday to him, all by my lonesome self. and having to re-do it a couple of times coz he felt i wasn't being sincere enough. well... all i can say is: it's gonna be payback time in 11 days! ha!
