turn left, turn right
as cranberry has requested for a review of the movie which was just screened on Ch U, here goes...
first, synopsis to refresh your memory:
the plot's about a struggling violinist (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and a translator (Gigi Leung) who happen to live right next to each other, they're only separated by a wall. their whole lives, they're only a few steps away, and yet, they never meet. to make it even more bittersweet, they used to have crushes on each other in high school. but things never worked out.
one day, they happen to meet at a park. and exchange phone numbers. alas, both scraps of paper get smudged in a bout of heavy rain. and it's back to square one. to cut a long story short, they finally meet when a quake rocks their apartment and the wall separating them crumbles. so there you have it, two lovers reunited.
now, J's view:
younger sis and i both agreed that it was a relief we didn't waste our cash on this. it was too sappy and incredulous. for a romantic film buff like me, this film disappointed greatly. the two leads were pretty two-dimensional. i expected more screen chemistry from takeshi and gigi. and the plot was too unbelieveable. i know the meaning of cha jian er guo is very poignant. but this takes it so far that it gets frustrating. exasperated J exclaimed 'finally!' when it drew to a close.
cranberry: it's a good thing you didn't waste your time on this. poor J forced herself to sit through this one so she could give an objective review.

heh. he always looks good. but his hair was a big turn off. too long and not well conditioned. bleah!
awww...so sweet J.And i must really say that the more reviews you do, the more you r getting e knack of being a reporter like a certain Ms S whose article is published in ST today:P
Oi.. that's one of the movies i like.. :P I think for this show, you prob can't take it literally, such as the collapse of the wall between them. Otherwise, it'll appear incredulous. Just to take it that events are magnified and beautified. Almost like a poetry.. so nice.. :) I really felt for them, esp the part where they are just beside each other in each photo. It is so sad.. can you imagine the person you were meant to meet, just beside you every time? So near yet so far.. it's already exasperating watching it.. what if you find out that you are experiencing it? :s - guess who? (muahahah.. oops)
Can i hazard a guess as to who you are, anonymous?
R u by any chance associated w an island off Spore? Thus e so near yet so far feeling:P...
Well, while i can envision e exasperating feeling in real life, its a bit of a depressant to see it on e movie screen esp if movies r a form of escapism.k...getting too cheem for J's blog. Comment on my blog anonymous:)
