just not the same...

J's been wanting to go back to the rochor road tau huay stall. it doesn't help tt cutest guy aka YR enjoys telling me that he's 'just been there the other day'. my mum was in the area today and bought some back for me. but it didn't taste as good as before; it was missing something...

perhaps it was the atmosphere
tables arranged haphazardly, sitting in the dark dingy alley. uneven tar covered flooring, making it difficult to find a seat that remains still when you shift your weight around. cars pulling up, drivers hopping out to buy takeaway.

perhaps it was eating it fresh
watching the silky smooth curd being scooped in precise motions into the bowl. precariously balancing the tray holding an assortment of tau huay (cold/ hot, liquid/solid) to the table. settling down to savour the comforting feeling of it sliding down your throat and disappearing into your tummy.

perhaps it's just the company
the good-natured laughter that always accompanies this sweet dessert. the gossipy talk of 'what? how? who? where? why???'. hahah. the catching up on each others' lives and stories. the long walk back to the most convenient form of public transport.

rochor rd tau huay's just not meant to be eaten at home
