spoil mkt bf strikes again!
yupz yupz... it's that time of the year again. when we get an sms from elaine's bf, SJ. this time it wasn't a surprise birthday gathering. the surprise was the birthday gift. more on that later...
von w and i met up to get elaine's bdae pres. we were trying to decide between landlord and fluxx. the deciding factor came when the store assistant (who happens to recognise elaine from her NTU floorball days) informed us that landlord was more of a 'sabo' game. to which von w immediately exclaimed 'that's fun!' yupz, elaine, that's how u ended up with landlord. hahah. the store asst told us a very interesting piece of trivia though. he said that it seems s'poreans tend to like sabotage games, while foreigners prefer other stuff.
anyway, the restaurant SJ chose was Hanabi Japanese restaurant at Bukit Timah. i was looking forward to the meal after having read rave reviews on it for the last couple of years. perhaps my expectations were too high... but i found the dishes forgettable. with the exception of the cheese chawanmushi, which delighted my tastebuds with its light cheesy flavor due to the addition of mozzarella. the soba was disappointing though. no al dente texture, like Shimbashi soba at Paragon that we went to last wk. the other dishes such as the sashimi, ebi tempura, etc were pretty normal. no 'wow! i must order another serving of this!' reaction. the edamame (green peas) i ordered were disappointing. even those at sakae sushi were more tasty. yupz... J has reached the conclusion that it's always better to order Jap food ala carte. quality is definitely more important than quantity with regards to this particular cuisine. unless u're a starving NS guy.
enough abt the food. let's move on to the surprise! when SJ pulled out a super big envelope, we were all wondering what it was. and he flippantly commented that it's only paper. but guess what, elaine's pres was a trip to mayang sari resort, bintan on her bdae! wow! nothing sounds better to an overworked auditor than a surprise hol. hahah. u should have heard the amount of gushing at the table. yupz. spoil mkt bf strikes again. hahaha. as i type this. elaine's probably just waking up to a breathtaking view of the south china sea. lucky girl! that SJ thorughly pampers her. hahah. we're all glad for u, elaine.
we adjourned to Tea Party later, to try out the game of Landlord, as well as to play our all-time fave Saboteur. it took a few mins for B1 to explain the rules of Saboteur to JG, but the smarty pants caught on soon enough. J loves the laughter, exclaimations, plotting, scheming and sabo-ing generated when our squad sits down to such games. we played till 12:30am... it was so much fun. JG and my squad, plus SJ, my fave pple all gathered around the same table, what's not to love?
(pics will be up as soon as i get my lazy ass moving)
