expectations are...

dangerous to harbour

i realised... in the midst of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and watching the little boy's disappointed face time and again when discovering that there was no Golden Ticket under the wrapper.

there used to be a time when he was satisfied and overjoyed about being able to get a Willy Wonka bar once a yr, on his birthday. when just the taste of a good chocolate bar was enough. when there were no expectations of anything more.

and then the distribution of Golden Tickets came along. that was when things changed. when the chocolate was just a means to an end. when all that mattered was getting the Golden Ticket and the simple pleasure of biting into a chocolate bar is forgotten.

and it makes me wonder...

there was so much more in the book that nvr appeared in the movie. so much that was not conveyed. the contentment with life despite being poor, the wide-eyed longing for a taste of chocolate, the bitter cold of winter, the coiled up excitement when unwrapping each choc bar, the joyful realisation of a flash of gold under the wrapper, the innocently humourous Oompa Loompas...

I dislike the show because its totally different story from what's original. Totally different interpretation and i dont see best parts of the story conveyed. The Oompa Loompas.. well, i'll never forget that face ever.

Hahhahhaa...
But it was great to all watch some movie all together!

Lets do one more soon! When we're more free during the coming two weeks plus training!

was the oompa loompa supposed to be scary in the book? each time they broke out into song and dance, i just got super irritated with them appearing again and again.

i just know i was exceedingly disturbed by it after leaving the theatre.

hahah. to think cranberry and i were starting to wonder why it seemed we were the only two pple who weren't too happy with the film.

ernie: ya... all the best parts of the book wasn't depicted. sigh! hahaha. yeah! let's do a movie during the training period. perhaps newton too? heheh.

lorr: they weren't supposed to be scary lor! they were supposed to be cute cavemen lookalikes that burst into spontaneous song. the Oompa Loompas in the movie were just plain weird dwarfs in spacemen suits. bleah
