babysitting and blu jaz

half of sat was spent babysitting... yeah, qy needed someone to accompany him to the tailor's to go get his shirt done. and of coz, who can be more free than J. thus, i got dragged along. but the tailor's was pretty good. a shirt costs abt $40 to $70, depending on the material. and there was such a wide variety of cloth! i was so tempted to get one done too, but decided to refrain till i see how his turns out. haha. in case anyone's interested, it's at meritus mandarin hotel's shopping arcade, level 3. look for maharajah tailor.

after completing that chore, i met up with cranberry and wl to get our threading done and to check out Blu Jaz cafe at Dunlop Street, Little India. we've been wanting to check out that place for some time, after reading reviews/blogs. and it lived up to the hype. the prices were cheap. i spent $13 bucks. and i had the blu jaz pasta (aglio-olio style), mango-lime smoothie, cafe latte and we all shared a caesar's salad.

u guys prob know that J doesn't eat greens. or at least she avoids them as much as possible. (i blame my bad eating habits on my parents for not forcing it down my throat during my childhood and letting me persist in my wilful ways. heh.) but this caesar's salad ($4.50 $5.50) was really good! crisp fresh greens, with a piquant cream dressing that tickled my taste buds, topped with bacon bits and croutons. cranberry and i wanted to wait for the other dishes to come so we could take pics. but wl couldn't resist and kept right on munching her way through the salad, despite the violent protests, scoldings, hand-slappings and constant rolling of our eyes. in the end, we gave up and joined in, coz the dent made was irrepairable.

the pasta was fantastic! now, aglio-olio is basically pan frying in olive oil. but i love it coz it enhances the true flavours of the ingredients. the main stuff in this version were the chicken chunks along with both green and red peppers. the pasta was perfectly al dente, with a bit more bite as compared to pasta fresca. i easily polished up the whole plate, despite having had pasta the day before. really nicely done, for the price of $4.80. wl ordered the tomato based sauce, coz it goes well with her ongoing fad of having tabasco sauce. but i preferred mine. heh.

the mango-lime smoothie ($3.20) was good! darn proud of myself for coming up with the combi. try the mango-pineapple fruit juice ($2.80) that cranberry got. it was another inspirational combination.


the food...

but what impressed me the most was the service. despite there being no service charge, the nice pretty waitress was most attentive. she made quite a few recommendations and patiently waited while we indecisively hemmed and hawed our way through the menu. i was most touched when we were lingering after our meal and she provided us with iced water even though we didn't request for any. there was hint of an impatient 'why aren't you going already?' manner. instead, she smiled graciously the whole time. you have to take into account the fact that we were there from 5:30pm till 10:30pm, a full 5 hrs. only prob was, she misspelled dessert as 'desert' on the chalkboard while prettily writing the daily specials. we couldn't bring ourselves to point out that particular mistake.

so, we sat there for the longest time, just basically talking girl talk, chilling, with the occasional game of footsie (my companions have the unexplicable penchant for brushing their feet lightly against my thigh *winkz*) and eyeing the ang mohs walking into the backpacker's hostel next door. i left the place most satisfied. have already recommended the place to my friends. 71 dunlop street, do drop by!
